Monday, June 26, 2023, at 09:00 AM, Mr. Anuwat Phothinam, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Development and Director of CESRA, will preside over the opening of The 2nd Workshop on "Strengthening CESRA Network and Soil Research Project for Sustainable Soil Management in the Region". The workshop was held from June 26-27, 2023, with Ms. Bunjirluk Jintaridth, soil improvement expert from the Department of Land Development, presenting a report. The participants included researchers from various educational institutions, as well as experts from soil-related network organizations, totaling 90 people. The workshop took place at Novotel Bangkok Future Park, Rangsit, Pathum Thani province.
Mr. Anuwat Phothinam, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Development and Director of CESRA, said that Thailand has gained trust from the Asian Soil Partnership to establish the Center of Excellence for Soil Research in Asia (CESRA). CESRA will serve as a central hub for soil data and research in Asia, providing a foundation to support the conservation, restoration, and improvement of soil resources in the region for sustainable benefits. This initiative addresses challenges posed by climate change and increased land use demands driven by global population growth. The Department of Land Development, as the main responsible agency, has received excellent cooperation from soil-related networks both domestically and internationally in continuously promoting the implementation of the work. This presents another valuable opportunity for experienced and recognized soil scientists in the country to exchange knowledge and plan research projects that can effectively address the challenges faced by Thailand's soil resources. The ultimate goal is to manage soil resources efficiently and sustainably, ensuring food security, maintaining ecological balance, and safeguarding nature and the environment.
It is expected that the success of Thailand's soil research in this endeavor will be disseminated to member countries and organizations of CESRA at the regional level in Asia. They will have the opportunity to study and benefit from the findings, and CESRA will further develop these research outcomes at the Asian level. This represents a significant step for Thailand in its strong leadership role in technology and soil management, contributing to the sustainable development of soil resources in the Asian region under the mission of CESRA.
